Wilder does Elton John Part I: Candle In The Wind
Thursday, June 10, 2008
Many of you remember Carmen singing "Candle" on their 8th album released in 1992, "Sorry My Karma Ran Over Your Dogma". It was a distinct departure from the usual progressive rock anthems penned by the band, and one of few cover remakes as well. It features pianist Ruell Chappell of A&M Recording Artists, The Ozark Mountain Daredevils ("Jackie Blue", "If You Wanna' Get To Heaven"), and includes a nice little acoustic lead by Bill Bruce. Another OMD member played on the "Karma" album as well, the late Bill Brown, a legendarily talented guitarist.
An interesting side note on the Elton John subject is that guitarist Bill Bruce worked on several projects produced by Elton's own Guy Babylon, with EJB members Davy Johnstone and Nigel Olsson (Guitarist and Drummer for Elton). Another note of interest is that Wilder recorded two EJ songs at the same time, the other was "Your Song". Of course "Candle" was the cut that ended up on "Karma", but the recording of "Your Song" is still in the archives...so if you want to hear it, check out the next INFO entry.
